マルタ島・ダイブサイト（１）、HMSマオリ・・・Dive site in Malta(1), HMS Maori

マルタ島のダイブサイトのご紹介をしてみようかと思います。
まずは、HMSマオリ。

HMSマオリは1937年9月に進水した英国軍の駆逐艦で、第二次世界大戦で活躍し、1942年にバレッタのグランド・ハーバーで爆撃を受けて沈んだ。その船体は1945年に二つに切り離され、後方部は地中海の沖に沈められ、今ではその場所は分らない。前方部は現在もセント・エルモ湾に横たわり、ダイビング・サイトとして愛されているが、年々砂に埋もれていっており、今では船体の半分以上は砂の中となっている。

長さは約３０m、水深は最大約１４m、デッキのあたりで約１１m。

HMS Maori, a British Destroyer, was launched in September, 1937. She served in WWII and was hit by a bomb in Grand Harbor, Valletta, in 1942. Her body was cut in two, and the aft section was sunk somewhere off Malta which location was lost forever. The forepart was towed to St. Elmo Bay and is still there today. It is a lovely dive site; however, it is sinking in sand every year. More than half of its body is now covered by sand.

About 30m long, 14m deepest, about 11m on the deck.

超特急でOWダイバー達成！！・・・Becoming OW Diver in a hurry!!

先週月曜日の午後、ECスクールの日本語オリエンテーションにお邪魔したところ、ダイビングに興味のある女の子と遭遇。１週間の滞在期間で、午前中は学校もあり、時間的にどうか、本人も迷ったようですが、その日にOWコースをやる事を決断！！火曜日には、DVDレッスンを行った後、温水プールで限定水域レッスンをほぼ終わらせ、水曜日には海洋実習１と残りの限定水域、残りのDVDレッスンとファイナル・エグザム、木曜日には海洋実習２と３、金曜日には海洋実習４を行い、無事、帰国までにOWダイバーになりました。この頑張りはスゴイ！！！！
Monday last week, I joined Japanese Orientation in EC School and met a girl who was interested in scuba diving. She was going to stay in Malta for a week, and she would have class in the morning. It was a tight schedule and she wasn't sure at first; however, she made a decision to take OW Course by the end of the day. On Tuesday, she had DVD lesson and some Confined Water lesson in National Pool. On Wednesday, she had Open Water lesson 1, the rest of Confined Water lesson, the rest of DVD lesson and the final exam. On Thursday, she finished Open Water lesson 3 and 4. On Friday, she finished Open Water lesson 4 and became an Open Water Diver!!! She did super well!!!!

日本人ディスカバー・スキューバ！！ Japanese Discover Scuba Diving!!

今日のマルタは、またもやお天気！ダイビング日和！！午前中から４名の日本人の方々が、初のダイビングに挑戦！ディスカバー・スキューバ・ダイビングを行いました。これからの１年間、ディスカバー・スキューバ・ダイバーとして、ぜひともダイビングをして欲しいです。そしていずれ、オープンウォーター・ダイバーになる日も、そう遠くはないかもしれません。（と、願っていまーす。）
Malta was sunny again today! Very good for diving! 4 Japanese challenged their first scuba diving this morning. Yes, they did Discover Scuba Diving Course. I really hope their diving as Discover Scuba Diver for 1 year. And someday, near future, they may become Open Water Diver! (I really hope so.)

マルタ島、今日も日本人が行く！！ Japanese is coming in Malta!!

今日もマルタはとても良い天気で、日焼け止めの塗り直しを２度３度と必要なほど。午前中はUm El Faroudにて、イギリス人ダイバーさんと、ツインセットでのロング・ダイビングを行い、午後は、日本人の女の子の、ディスカバー・スキューバ・ダイビングでした。日本人の女の子は、本当に、冒険好き！！最初はドキドキしちゃったけれど、スキルもスススーッ！と済ませ、海洋実習では、すっかりと落ち着いちゃって、魚や赤ちゃんウツボに出会いながら楽しいダイビングとなりました。
It was a nice sunny day again in Malta and made me put sun block cream repeatedly. In the morning, I had a long dive with a British diver carrying a twin set. In the afternoon, Japanese girl came for Discover Scuba Diving course. Japanese girls are very adventurous!! She was nervous at the beginning but finished the skills very smoothly. For the Open Water dive, she was very calm already and we had such a nice diving, saying "Hello" to fish and a baby moray eel.

東京のダイビングフェアに行きました！…Went to the Diving Fair in Tokyo

４月６、７、８日に東京・池袋で開催された、ダイビング・フェアに行ってきました。想像よりも規模が大きく、多数のダイバー達で賑わっていました。商品が当たるイベントも多く行われていて、かなり盛り上がっていました。昨年マルタへいらした、ブルー&スノーの皆さんにも再会、この前マルタで一緒に潜ったシゲリちゃんとチヒロちゃんにも会うことができ、とても楽しかったです！
ダイビングの様々な器材やグッズも手頃な価格で売り出されていて、ダイバーには財布の緩んでしまう危険な状態でした。
I went to the Diving Fair in Ikebukuro, Tokyo on 6th-8th April, 2012. It was much bigger than I imagined. Many divers came to the event, enjoying quiz and show. I enjoyed the reunion with people from Blue & Snow who came to Malta last summer and Shigeri & Chihiro who dived with us just a couple weeks ago.
Some shops had very good deal for equipments and diving goods which were quite dangerous for divers.

マルタ島で、またもや日本人ダイバー誕生！！ Another Japanese Diver is born in Malta

今週、またもや日本人ダイバーが、マルタ島で誕生しました！短期留学で来ていたレイナちゃん。体験ダイビングから始めて、今週、朝は英語の勉強、午後はダイビングのコースと、忙しい日々。限定水域レッスンは、温水プールで一つ一つ確実に行いました。そしてついに、オープンウォーター・ダイバーになりました！！日本へ帰っても、ぜひぜひ、ダイビングを続けてくださいね。
Another Japanese diver was born in Malta this week. Reina came to Malta to study English for a few weeks. She started with Discover Scuba Diving. She was very busy this week; English study in the morning and diving lessons in the afternoon. For the Confined Water Sessions, we used heated pool in the National Pool and practiced the skills one by one.  And now, she became a Open Water Diver!! Keep diving in Japan, Reina!

マルタ島、日本人ギャング、今日も行く！！・・・Malta, Here it goes, Japanese Bandits again!

今日は朝から１７人もの日本人高校生が、体験ダイビングに参加！日本人ギャング登場！！って感じ。とは言っても、みんなとてもカワイイのですが。ダイブセンターは、日本人パワーに押されっぱなし。天候にも恵まれ、ダイビング日和。初めての器材にもドキドキでしたが、皆、それぞれに楽しんでくれました。最後は皆で笑顔でポーズ！
17 Japanese high school students joined us for Discover Scuba Diving this morning. Here it comes, Japanese Bandits!! Well, they are still very cute, though. Japanese power was all over the place in the dive centre. It was wonderful sunny day, perfect for diving. Everybody was very excited with the diving gear for the first time but enjoyed their experience. Very nice smile for the photo at the end.
